I felt like translating stuff but I didn’t have an idea of what I wanted to, so I ended up doing one of my favourite flumpool songs!
I haven’t seen any translations of the Mandarin Chinese version yet so here 🙂 I can’t seen to find a pinyin (i.e. the romanised pronunciation) version so I tried but since my chinese is god-awful it sucks quite a bit lol (sigh) NEVERTHELESS if you want to sing along to this song and you don’t know Chinese the pinyin should help! (somewhat!) 😮 You’ll hafta scroll to get to the translation in this one though sorry m(_ _)m
(If you guys out there reading this have any requests for lyric translation do message me – I won’t guarantee that I’ll translate the song but I will try if I’m in that fandom?)

Falling leaves prove that autumn is hereWrinkles prove the passing of the yearsTears prove somebody’s heartbreakThat photograph proves our past*But it’s not the proof of anybody’s promise
Even though I’ve changed where I liveAnd deliberately keep walking further and further awayIn the end we still meet by chanceFrom those cool greetings you and I exchangeNobody can tell that we once loved each other
We’ve all grown up alreadyWe’re no longer impulsiveNor do we go crazy for someone, or for love
No more questioningAnd especially no more recollectionOf those heartrending detailsHey
I can’t think of which momentWhich minute, which second, of which dayWhich sweet loving momentCaused our memories to slowly, slowly fall apart
In the end there needs to be one personWho for one day, one night, one yearEndures it alone day after dayWho can prove that our loveWas once so strong and resolute?
You look like you’ve grown skinnierI’ve moved down to another streetLet’s talk again when we’re free another dayThat which ruined our love wasn’t a particular personBut the fact that you and I have changed
We’ve both changed nowWe can only leave things behind**We can only face the mature world of grown-ups
No more agitation***And especially no more longing forThat dream of an eternity that will never come trueHey
I can’t think of which momentWhich minute, which second, of which dayWhich sweet loving momentCaused our memories to slowly, slowly fall apart
In the end there needs to be one personWho for one day, one night, one yearEndures it alone day after dayWho can prove that our love was once…
Every moment that you give meEvery minute, every second, of every dayEvery sweet loving momentI am still deeply, deeply grateful for each one
In the end there needs to be one personWho for one day, one night one yearKeeps moving on towards tomorrow day after dayProving in the end that our ‘eternity’Can only exist in the precious, long-gone past

//translator notes:* literally ‘zuo tian’, or ‘yesterday’, but it can also refer to the past, which i figured sounded more fitting/poetic.** literal translation of this was ‘deposit/precipitate’ which was a little weird so i just went with the general image.*** same as the above point – translation was like ‘boiling/seething’ so i went with the image.
This rewrite hurts me so bad ;u; the original by ryuta (you can read a translation here) is already pretty heartbreaking, a song of longing for a past love, but at least the speaker finds resolution and moves on. here the speaker seems to be stuck wishing for what he never had – an eternity of love. longing for a romance of the past, for some sort of ‘proof’, i guess, that he once did in fact love someone.
Ashin mentioned that he wrote this because the Chinese/Taiwanese love heartbreaking songs and gdi he’s right this is so heartbreaking ;____;
As always, not 100% correct – my Chinese is as bad as, if not worse than, my Japanese despite 10 years of learning it orz I apologise for any translation errors!
That’s it for now! Arrivederci! 🙂
